1. What is your role at Accora?

My role at Accora is Sales Manager. The role can take many forms, but it primarily involves managing the Account Manager and Product Specialist teams. The main focus of the role is to provide the best possible service to clinicians, clients, and their families. Another key part of the role is supporting business growth through high-quality service, while also helping staff get the most out of each day. Regular meetings, along with consistent interaction and communication with other internal departments, are also an integral part of the job.

2. How long have you been part of the team?

I have been part of the team for over three years.

3. What does a typical day look like for you?

No two days are the same, which keeps the role interesting and provides opportunities to learn every day. A typical day usually consists of customer meetings, which can take place anywhere across Ireland, either face-to-face or online. It also involves arranging and presenting demonstrations with clinical teams, supporting the Product Specialist team with training and personal development, and liaising with wider Accora departments to ensure a streamlined service.

4. What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy meeting different people and seeing the positive impact and support we can provide in someone’s life.

5. What’s something people might not expect about your work?

The role is still quite hands-on and can involve a lot of manual work. While meetings and office-based tasks are a major part of the job, most days also involve assembling equipment, moving products for demonstrations or training days, and delivering equipment into buildings.

6. What’s one value or mindset that guides how you work?

Integrity is a very important value in this role, whether working with customers or liaising with colleagues. Everything we do within the business is carried out to the highest standard and to the best of our ability.

7. What’s a moment or achievement at Accora you’re especially proud of?

I am especially proud of seeing the rapid growth of the business year after year, along with the genuine effort everyone puts in to achieve our current success.

8. If you had to describe Accora in one word, what would it be — and why?

Dignity. Whether it is creating equipment that assists clients and makes their lives easier, or providing a service that genuinely helps people, doing things the right way and for the right reasons is always at the heart of what we do.

9. When you're not at Accora, how do you like to unwind or spend your free time?

I try to make the most of my weekends by spending time with family. I also enjoy attending live sporting events whenever I can, and every now and then I like to play a round of golf.

Safe sleep: the Ascenda story

Great products don’t start with technology; they start with people. One of the most common problems occupational therapists face is a client who sleeps in their riser recliner. Typically due to ‘comfort’ or inability to transfer to a bed, this leads to numerous complications in posture, pressure, and in some cases can lead to Lymphedema. Critically, as a result of this, clients face the most challenging complication of all - the absence of independence and dignity.

Why education in health and social care must remain free

Across the UK, health and social care professionals are being asked to do more than ever before. They are supporting people with increasingly complex needs, navigating workforce shortages, and delivering care within systems under sustained financial pressure. Yet one expectation has remained constant: clinicians must continue to learn, adapt, and develop.

The swell effect: Starting with legs for patients sleeping in a riser recliner

When a patient presents with swollen legs (oedema), they aren't just carrying extra fluid; they are carrying a heavy burden that threatens their independence and potentially the viability of their skin in terms of leg ulceration and potential pressure damage. If left unmanaged, a "simple" case of swelling can trigger a downward spiral that could end in a total loss of mobility- a state clinicians often call being “off-legs.”

What does person-centred care mean to you?

Person-centred care is one of those phrases that everyone in health and social care uses, and almost no one defines the same way. It appears in policy documents, training materials, care plans, and inspection reports- yet ask ten clinicians what it means in practice, and you'll get ten different answers. So at our recent 24-Hour Care Conference in Watford, we decided to do exactly that. We handed out a card with one prompt: 'Person-centred care is…'
