This month in our Meet the Team series, we’re introducing you to Sarah Thompson, our Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse.
Sarah has been part of Accora for two and a half years, bringing deep clinical expertise, compassion, and an infectious enthusiasm for improving care outcomes. Here’s a little insight into her role, what drives her, and how she combines her professional and personal passions.
What is your role at Accora?
My role is Tissue Viability Specialist Nurse.
How long have you been part of the team?
I have been working at Accora for two and a half years.
What does a typical day look like for you?
My working day can vary from day to day, and week to week- which is part of the reason why I love working for Accora. My main role is to provide training to staff across a range of care environments.
In addition to this, I build training programmes, write e-learning content, work with our Innovation, Research and Development teams, attend conferences, undertake patient assessments, deliver virtual training sessions, and connect with other care providers and specialists. It really is so varied!
What do you enjoy most about your role?
My main passion is seeing the difference our products and training make to end users- whether that’s someone at home, in a care home, hospice, or acute setting. There’s no better feeling than seeing how we can truly improve lives.
What’s something people might not expect about your work?
That it’s not just about wound healing. Many people assume that if you’re a Tissue Viability Nurse, you only work with people who already have wounds. The other side of this role is prevention- particularly preventing pressure ulcers.
In the UK, over 700,000 people are affected by pressure ulcers each year, and around 180,000 of those are newly acquired annually (Wood, 2019). These have a huge impact on people’s lives, so raising awareness of prevention and offering specialist equipment to reduce risk is vitally important.
What’s one value or mindset that guides how you work?
Integrity. Accora is an honest company that values transparency and good ethics in all its actions and decisions- and that really aligns with how I approach my work every day.
If you had to describe Accora in one word, what would it be- and why?
Integrity. Because it’s at the heart of everything we do- from product design to how we support our customers and colleagues.
When you're not at Accora, how do you like to unwind or spend your free time?
I’m a Jazzercise instructor! It’s a dance-based fitness programme that combines cardio and strength training. My oldest participant is 74 and my youngest is 21. During classes, I often talk about posture and movement- just like in my day job- so it’s great to be able to bring both worlds together.
Sarah’s role combines clinical knowledge, education, and a true passion for making a difference. Whether she’s developing training content, supporting care providers, or raising awareness about pressure ulcer prevention, she plays a vital part in helping Accora improve comfort, safety, and quality of life for people across all care settings.
A big thank you to Sarah for her dedication, expertise, and the energy she brings to the Accora clinical team every day!
