In this session we will explore the fundamentals of reported pain, how it can present, how it can impact function and how often a chair is seen as the solution.

This session is aimed at providing therapists the opportunity to think around this common issue and enable them to ask investigatory questions to help adjust seating as required.

In this session we will explore the various types and styles of communication, how important the way we communicate is and how this may affect the outcome when working with service users and their carers. We will refer to the legislation that guides us and be referred to in these complex cases and know when to seek legal advice for an individual case.   

This session will provide an overview of REMAP, a national charity that has been making and adapting equipment to meet the unique needs of individuals at no cost to them.  The variety and complexity of equipment provided is wide-ranging and limited only by the creativity and skills of its volunteer engineers.  The equipment created is explicitly designed for the client. 

Sharing case studies, we will showcase the life span of REMAP’s service and explore how your professional curiosity can help clients achieve much more. We will discuss what can be achieved and how to consider the language we use as occupational therapists when working with the engineer. We will explore how you can influence commercial manufacturers to design accessible and cognitive infusion products.

In this session we will explore the issues around people sleeping in riser recliner chairs – we will look at this issue from a functional occupational performance and a tissue viability perspective.

This session is aimed to enable health care professionals to think around this presenting issue to enable them to have a constructive discussion with people they are working with to come to an agreeable solution.

When prescribing seating, our aim is to meet the needs of the service user by prescribing a chair that will provide the right level of support, enable safe, easier assisted or independent transfers, reduce risk of pressure injuries and enable them to obtain and maintain a good sitting posture in the provided chair. However when a service user has a cognitive impairment and has poor risk awareness, additional risks are present. In this session we aim to outline some of these possible additional risks and how to overcome them to ensure the service user and their carers/family remain as safe as possible when the service user is seated in a chair that is there to meet their needs.

Following the recent popular webinar which addressed the MHRA alert on bed rails and we have decided to focus on how areas are implementing the actions set out in the National Safety Patient Alert.

Based on the feedback from the previous session we will concentrate on risk assessment around bed rails, bed levers and turning devices mentioned in the guidance.
