Synopsis

This interactive workshop combines practical, hands-on activities with guided discussions to explore the principles of postural assessment and the application of postural care equipment for both sitting and lying. Participants will have the opportunity to: 

·     Review key considerations for postural assessment and their clinical implications. 

·     Gain insights into seating and lying support systems, including their appropriate use. 

·     Engage in practical exercises to apply equipment for case-based problem-solving scenarios. 

This session is designed to cater to all levels of experience. For those new to postural care, it offers an introductory overview and practical exposure. For more experienced participants, it provides an opportunity to deepen clinical reasoning and refine problem-solving strategies through advanced case discussions. 

Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the principles of postural care and the impact of  poor posture.
  • Identify the different types of seating and lying supports available.
  • Assess individual postural needs and align them with suitable supports.
  • Apply practical techniques for positioning and supporting clients.
  • Recognise common postural challenges and how to address them.

Meet our Experts:

Jenny Rolfe

Jenny Rolfe

Jenny is a senior occupational therapist. She qualified in 1997 and completed her MSc in Neuro-rehabilitation in 2007. She has worked in Neurological Rehabilitation at the Battle Hospital in Reading, and the Rivermead Rehabilitation Centre in Oxford which became part of the Oxford Centre for Enablement in 2000. She moved into the Specialist Disability Service at the OCE from where she joined the Oxford MND Centre in January 2007.

Since August 2009 Jenny has been funded full-time by the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association to develop NHS wheelchair services across the UK, to improve wheelchair provision for people living with MND.

Chris has been an Account Manager at Accora for six years, supporting customers across the South East and London. With strong product knowledge and a hands-on approach, he works closely with clinicians and care providers to help them choose the right equipment and get the best outcomes for their service users.

Philippa Clark

Philippa qualified as a nurse in 1997 and quickly developed a passion for tissue viability while working in a hospital setting. Over the years she expanded her expertise through further education and clinical experience, leading to her first specialist Tissue Viability role in 2010. In this position she supported a nurse-led wound service and delivered education to healthcare staff on pressure ulcer prevention, wound management and best practice in patient care.

More recently, Philippa has worked as a Tissue Viability Nurse within community services, broadening her clinical perspective and strengthening her commitment to preventative care. By joining Accora, she is excited to champion the vital role of prevention in pressure ulcer management and support improved outcomes for patients.
