Today we are shining a spotlight on our Ireland Country Manager, Des. He shares some insights into his role, what motivates him, and how Accora’s values shape the way he works. From hands-on customer support to leading with empathy, this is a look behind the scenes at what it really means to make an impact at Accora.
What is your role at Accora?
I’m Country Manager at Accora, where we believe every role matters. Alongside leading our operations, I love getting involved directly with customers, whether that’s through assessments, deliveries, or simply being there to listen and support.
How long have you been part of the team?
I’ve been with Accora for 7 years, during which I’ve enjoyed contributing to our growth and building lasting relationships with clients and partners.
What does a typical day look like for you?
On a typical day, I balance emails and phone calls with hands-on work- assessing service users to ensure they have the most suitable chairs, and providing specialist beds that help reduce falls and lessen the need for restrictive bed rails.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The part of my role I enjoy most is making a difference for our customers and service users- whether that’s by delivering the best service I can or by working closely with my team to solve complex cases and provide the most suitable products for each person’s needs.
What’s something people might not expect about your work?
What people might not expect about my role is that I occasionally help build equipment before it goes out to customers. At Accora, we all share responsibilities, which means we can support one another and ensure our customers are never kept waiting- even if someone is away.
What’s one value or mindset that guides how you work?
Always put the service user at the heart of every decision- every chair or bed we provide should make a real difference in someone’s life, with respect for each service user and their family guiding how we work
What’s a moment or achievement at Accora you’re especially proud of?
I don’t have one specific moment of achievement at Accora- every small and large success is a combined effort that reflects both the growth I’ve experienced and the growth of the business. From supporting service users with the right equipment to collaborating with my team on complex cases, it’s the collective progress and positive impact we create together that I value most.
If you had to describe Accora in one word, what would it be- and why?
Impactful- it captures both the difference the company makes for service users and the meaningful work everyone contributes to.
When you're not at Accora, how do you like to unwind or spend your free time?
When I’m not at Accora, I spend most of my time with my partner and our baby boy. It’s wonderful to have a balance between work and family, and even at work, the culture at Accora reflects that family really does come first.
A huge thank you to Des for taking the time to share his experiences and insight into life at Accora. From leadership to hands-on support, Des' impact is felt across the team and by the people we support every day- and we’re incredibly grateful to have him as part of the Accora family.
