OT Week: 24 hour postural care
With RCOT’s OT week this year focusing on ‘prevention and early intervention’, this webinar will look closely at identifying the risks for individuals if their posture starts to change. We will discover how early intervention can help support and maximise our patient's independence and function, and in-turn greatly reduce risks of secondary health complications.
Learning Outcomes
- We will look at the theory of posture and discuss the reasons & causes that drive changes to body shape and body symmetry.
- How these changes will impact on someone’s long term health if we are not alerted and act on early warning signs.
- What key areas we need to focus on in our assessment to identify someone’s postural needs and how to transpose this data into clear request for appropriate equipment.
- Overview of postural solutions for sitting and in lying to maintain anatomical alignment & considerations for supporting fixed body asymmetry.

Can care environments be sustainable?
This webinar will ask what we mean by sustainability in care home design. With homes typically being refurbished every 5-7 years, making sure that designs are as environmentally friendly as possible is growing increasingly important, but how do we achieve this? We shall look at the tension which exists within the sector between meeting the needs of the various stakeholder groups and designing sustainably. The webinar will conclude by looking at things we can all do at a micro level.
