Jacqui Smith is an experienced healthcare designer with a particular interest in how the built environment can support people living with sensory and cognitive impairments. Designing for health and physical and mental well-being, and the role colour plays is at the core of her work. Her portfolio includes both new build and refurbishment projects in Extra Care, sheltered housing, dementia and nursing homes, homes for young adults with learning disabilities and hospices/end of life care. Jacqui is an accredited member of The Society of British and International Interior Design (SBID) and Chair of her local Dementia Friendly Community.

Sue has been in the land acquisition and new build of housing and care homes for nearly 25 years, and since 2000 she has specialised in the care home sector having joined Hallmark Care homes in 2009. Bed standards and side rail provision – post the deadline

Following the recent popular webinar which addressed the MHRA alert on bed rails and we have decided to focus on how areas are implementing the actions set out in the National Safety Patient Alert.

Based on the feedback from the previous session we will concentrate on risk assessment around bed rails, bed levers and turning devices mentioned in the guidance.

Concepts behind an evidence-based falls prevention programme for older people: Stepping On

Megan Swann is a Consultant Occupational Therapist Master Trainer and Co-author of the Stepping On falls prevention programme in Australia NSW. She has over 30 years of experience. Stepping On, an evidence based programme, aims to equip participants with the knowledge, strength and confidence to prevent falls, stay active and remain independent.

The programme whilst founded in Australia by two Occupational Therapists is also now in 17 states of the US and a manual has been written for Spanish speakers in the US: www.steppingon.com.

She continues to run and train allied health workers to become Stepping On facilitators.
